Outfitting for Adventure with The North Face

Outerwear Outpost gives shoppers a feel for winter weather exploration

Approved for the beckoning north face

The North Face stands for inspiring adventures and equipping those who undertake them with top-notch gear to withstand any element. When DICK’s Sporting Goods challenged The North Face to reinvent their Outerwear Outpost for key jacket buying season, The North Face envisioned a unique destination that championed the brand and epitomized the aesthetic and quality of the premium product in an immersive shop-in-shop environment.

IDL and The North Face teams set out to find a design solution to capture shoppers’ attention amidst a sea of winter weather wear that could be scaled to outfit 450 DICK’s Sporting Goods locations across the country.

The key was holding steadfast to the design intent as an extension of The North Face values and brand standards while also maintaining the retailer’s specific spatial and branding expectations.

Recreating the Outerwear Outpost as an alluring space that inspired adventure and exploration, the team developed a visual center to embody extreme weather conditions that was simultaneously modern, artistic, and bold. IDL designed, developed, executed and installed clean, faceted sculptures, elevated stories presented on slate, and crisp imagery on merchandising elements to capture The North Face’s heritage in big mountain exploration within DICK’s Sporting Goods environments nationwide.
